Beyond Mindfulness: Explorations in Mind, Body, Emotion & Spirit 

Next Date TBA. 

When we meet and greet our emotions, beliefs and memories directly we enter a doorway to self-knowledge and insight. These classes teach methods for cultivating mindful awareness step-by-step, and for sharing our observations with each other. Participants are guided through experiential exercises, moving from the head to the whole self and growing a deeper connection to their emotions and spirit.

If you’ve had difficulty with seated meditation, this is the express lane to deeper consciousness! Bhakti Nidra is meditation done lying down, removing all posture concerns. A combination of meditation with soothing live harmonium music, this fully guided class is perfect for beginning meditators, and anyone who is looking for more rest and relaxation in their life.

Our sanctuary is never more beautiful than at night, lit only by candlelight. This is a deeply peaceful, silent meditation. Enjoy the quiet darkness surrounded by fellow meditators and illuminated by candlelight. This event happens on Friday evenings – a wonderful way to ease gently out of the work week and begin the weekend gently.

How do we follow through with what we know is good for us? In this class we will look at three special ingredients that are crucial to keeping commitments. Without all three, we become ungrounded and can easily be talked out of doing what takes care of us.

Dharma Now: Meditation, Tea and Teachings

Wednesdays at 6:30pm - 8:00pm (no class Sep 28, Oct 5, Nov 2 & Nov 23)

This class is ideal for beginners with an interest in combining regular mindfulness meditation with reflection on our lives, enhanced by dharma inquiry. Join us for 30 minutes of sitting meditation followed by 10 minutes of walking meditation. Then enjoy tea in a traditional manner: in silence, as a mindfulness experience. The evening ends with a brief dharma presentation and discussion.

Essentrics is like giving yourself a full-body massage. We'll work on all 650 muscles in a specific sequence, much like a massage. You'll gain pliability and mobility for an ageless, healthy, toned, and pain-free body. After the workout, we'll engage in a 15-minute guided meditation.

It’s not about how long you sit. Well, sometimes it is. Insights from a 60 minute meditation are different than the insights from a 20 or 30 minute meditation. And insights from a 2 hour or 3 hour meditation are different still. These sessions are an opportunity to extend yourself and extend your practice.

Tai Chi, more correctly, Tai Chi Chuan, is an old martial art that has taken on new life as a powerful exercise, movement and meditation technique. We practice the art for its ability to improve balance in our lives (literally and figuratively), to provide gentle exercise, improve mindfulness, and gain more energy that we call Chi.

The Pali word Kusala can be translated as skillful, wholesome or beneficial – aspects by which you could measure a “good” life. These classes explore Buddhist philosophy regarding skillful thoughts, wholesome words and beneficial actions. Through simple yet profound inquiry we can uncover old habits and inherited beliefs that appear helpful but my be holding us back on our spiritual journey.

Learn to Meditate

These drop-in classes cover several variations of mindfulness meditation, both sitting and walking techniques. The format alternates instruction with short meditation sessions, with plenty of time for questions and discussion. Qigong develops the mastery of the cultivation and refinement of chi (life force energy), leading to profound healing, enlightenment and full expression of life. Raja Yoga: An Exploration of Yoga Scriptures

Based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, these classes explore meditation, personal action and divine grace as a path to experiencing our true nature. These classes do not involve asanas (yoga postures). Taught in the Socratic Method of critical questioning, these session focus on the sutras most applicable to everyday life. Each class will begin and end with meditation, and in-between will be lively conversation where students are encouraged to share their insights, confusions, observations and experiences. Prior experience of Yoga or the Yoga Sutras is not required.

This group gathers together each week to practice mindfulness meditation (Vipassana) as a community. Though its focus is on the Theravadan tradition of Buddhism, all are welcome regardless of spiritual and religious affiliations.
